About Our Presa Canario Breed

The Presa Canario is a powerful working breed originating from the Canary Islands of Spain. While the dogs themselves have existed on the islands for centuries, the modern Presa Canario breed was officially standardized in 1989, marking the beginning of its formal recognition and development in the modern era.

Known for their impressive coats, strong guardian instincts, and natural working ability with livestock, Presa Canarios are powerful, intelligent dogs that were historically used for guarding farms and controlling cattle.

Beastmaster Kennel began in 2010 with a clear vision: to build a bloodline exactly the way we believe the breed should be. Generation after generation, we have carefully selected dogs that represent strength, structure, temperament, and presence.

Our program follows the 2001 Presa Canario breed standard, which emphasized larger, more powerful dogs with strong type and presence. Many of the legendary dogs that shaped the breed's reputation worldwide were produced under this standard.

Today, our dogs remain larger than what is commonly seen under the current standard. Our females start around 110 pounds, while our main stud male reaches 172 pounds in athletic condition. Despite their size, our dogs maintain correct structure, balanced movement, and the natural guardian instincts that define the Presa Canario.

At Beastmaster Kennel, our goal is to preserve the power, working ability, and traditional presence that made the Presa Canario famous around the world.
